Triathlons are perhaps the ultimate endurance challenge.
A triathlon combines the three disciplines of swimming, cycling, and running to create a test of an athlete's physical and mental limits matched nowhere else in the world of sports. To win one of these unbelievable events requires carefully planned preparation, a lot of patience, and a willingness to put it all out on race day.
No triathlon is more challenging than the Hawaiian Ironman, the world championship of the sport held each year in Kona, Hawaii. For those of you who have seen this amazing event on television, you already know that the race course is part wind tunnel, part black lava desert and part sauna. The winner's come across the finish line in just over 8 hours! That's quite a day at the office.
