Timothy S. Mescon Profile
Dr. Timothy S. Mescon is the fourth president of Columbus State University. He assumed that responsibility in August 2008. In 2012, Columbus State was named by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Top 50 Regional Public Universities in the South in the magazine`s Best Colleges 2013 guidebook. In 2013, Columbus State`s online graduate programs in business and education were named among the top 35 in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report.
Currently Dr. Mescon serves as a trustee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools` Commission on Colleges. He is also a trustee at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, chair of the board of the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley (where he led the successful 2010 campaign), and a trustee of the Boy Scouts of America - Chattahoochee Council and the Fort Benning Futures Partnership Board. He also serves as an ally in the Circles Columbus Program.
In 2012 and 2013, Georgia Trend magazine named Dr. Mescon one of the 100 Most Influential Georgians.
Before arriving at Columbus State, Dr. Mescon was dean for 18 years at the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University in metropolitan Atlanta, where he held the Tony and Jack Dinos Eminent Scholar Chair of Entrepreneurship. Dr. Mescon is the author of more than 200 articles and cases and has co-authored four books. His latest, a second edition of Entrepreneurship: Venture Initiation, Management and Development was to be released in fall 2013. Additionally, he has co-authored an audiotape series titled Management Excellence for Nightingale-Conant.
Dr. Mescon also serves on the Advisory Council of the Institute for Nuclear Power Operations. The White House named him a winner of the President`s Volunteer Service Award from the President`s Council on Service and Civic Participation. In his SACS accreditation service, he`s actively served on COC teams over the past four years and has completed SACSCOC chair training. Previously, he chaired more than a dozen visitation teams of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. He has also served on AACSB International`s Maintenance of Accreditation and Accreditation Quality committees.
Dr. Mescon received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, MBA from Southern Methodist University and B.A. from Tulane University. He has served on the faculties of Arizona State University and the University of Miami. He was founding dean of the Frank Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University in Maryland. He serves on the Advisory Board of the Kingston University (U.K.) School of Business and Law. Additionally, Dr. Mescon has served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Aston in Birmingham, England and Nanjing University in China and as a visiting fellow at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Dr. Mescon is married to Lauren, and they have four children: William, Preston, Abbie and David.
