Biography

Steve Farber is President of Extreme Leadership, Inc—an organization devoted to changing the world through the cultivation and development of Extreme Leaders in the business community.  He has educated and inspired thousands of people throughout the world in the areas of leadership, service quality, reinvention, and teamwork.

Farber joined the Tom Peters Company in 1994 as their first full-time staff consultant.  He quickly became their most requested consultant and speaker and was given the title of Vice President and Official Mouthpiece (that’s what it said on his business card).  Steve left TPC in November of 2000 to establish Extreme Leadership, Inc, and in June of 2001 his former employer honored him with the designation of Tom Peters Company Fellow. He’s not exactly sure what that means, but he thinks it’s a good thing.

 A subject matter expert in business leadership, Steve is a senior-level leadership consultant who has conducted hundreds of client engagements with thousands of business people in a wide variety of industries.  Steve’s presentations are packed with practical, from-the-trenches strategies, examples and ideas that result in a powerful and meaningful message.

In response to today’s fad-oriented business world, Farber has centered his career around helping professionals understand what to do when popular, attractive-sounding terms like empowerment, reengineering, leadership, and vision, for example, smack up against the hard wall of reality.  “We are seeing a significant gap between ideas and behaviors.  Your constituents need to understand what’s in it for them to practice these concepts,” Steve says.  “Most often, people (and I do put managers in that category) don’t change for the organization: they change for themselves.”  Coaching and inspiring that change at all levels is Steve’s passion, and he does so with style that is part strategist, part social commentator, part comedian, and all energy.

Steve has worked with Agilent Technologies, the American Medical Association (AMA), Charles Schwab Company, Clorox, Consumers Energy, Ford Motor Company, Ikon Office Solutions, Intel, KLA-Tenor, Lawrence Livermore Labs, Lockheed Martin, The Money Store, Montgomery Asset Management, Oral-B Laboratories, The Panama Canal Commission, Pier One, the Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals (SOCAP), the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), Sun Microsystems, 3M, and Walt Disney Imagineering among many others.

Before his tenure at the Tom Peters Company, Steve was with TMI North America where he served as a consultant, Program Leader, and the Director of Service Programs.  He developed his management and marketing skills, as well as his love for consulting and speaking, as President of Independence Financial Group, Inc., a financial brokerage firm.  Steve is the author of the audio series, Extreme Leadership: In Pursuit of the OS!M.  He is a contributor to the business anthology, Leading Authorities on Business: Winning Strategies From the Greatest Minds in Business Today, and has recently released his book entitled, The Radical Leap: A Personal Lesson in Extreme Leadership,.
