ince graduating from the University of Toronto Medical School, Peter G. Hanson, M.D., has been helping patients feel their best. As a medical innovator, he introduced the medical acupuncture specialty to Denver when he arrived here in 1992 and has performed over a half a million treatments. His innovative techniques in acupuncture have gained widespread use throughout the country. Hanson is a world-renowned authority on the subject of stress. The author of several international best-sellers, including The Joy of Stress, he is also an internationally syndicated radio broadcaster and professional public speaker. As a firm believer in integrated medical care, Dr. Hanson has established a team of talented health care providers. Chiropractor Dr. Jean Remillard has been a valuable addition to the office. With his anatomical approach to treatments, Remillard can help speed the recovery of those patients who need chiropractic adjustments. Massage therapist Liz Eaton offers deep tissue, Swedish and neuromuscular techniques and customizes each treatment to best suit the patient. The Institute's patients include those who suffer chronic pain from arthritis, disc diseases, headaches, and fibromyalgia, as well as acute pain from work or auto accidents or sports injuries. Acupuncture works by releasing high levels of the body's own painkiller, endorphin, as well as the body's own anti-inflammatory drug, cortisone. Cortisone helps the body get rid of the inflammation that causes pain and explains why acupuncture is helpful in cases of allergies, colitis or asthma. For those who do not like needles, the Institute also provides the latest in cold laser technology, as well as cotton-tipped electrical stimulations. Acupuncture treatments may be coordinated with therapeutic massage, aromatherapy and chiropractic care, to ease the burden on patients' schedules. Additionally, other therapeutic options, including acupuncture programs for weight loss, smoking cessation and addictions to drugs or medications, are also offered. Timely appointments are available for acute cases, such as severe migraines, so established patients can be treated as soon as possible. The Institute also offers a comprehensive city-spa experience. Patients often come to the Institute for a half day of preventive care, sampling various stress-reducing treatments and enjoying Hanson's Joy of Stress aromatherapy products. Hanson pioneered the non-surgical face "lift" treatment — cotton-tipped wands stimulated by a computerized electrical machine that tingles the 22 muscles on each side of the face into action. This treatment takes facial muscles "to the gym," much like free-weights pump larger muscles, and provides a subtle, glowing affect. Results can be seen at once and continue to improve with repetition. Each relaxing treatment takes 50 minutes, and includes an exfoliation, moisturizing hot mitts for hands and feet, topical moisturizers including collagen, and a facial mask. Visits are priced comparable with ordinary facials, but do so much more for muscle tone. Recently Hanson and actress Suzanne Somers introduced an at-home version of the non-surgical face "lift" — the FaceMaster of Beverly Hills. With a goal to give each patient his or her life back, free from side effects, the Hanson Peak Performance Institute offers a one-stop healing center to clients.
