Biography

A world-renowned sports psychology consultant, speaker and corporate coach, Dr. Jack Llewellyn is founder and president of the Atlanta-based Center for Winning Performance.

Dr. Llewellyn helps clients use the same approach and strategies used by world famous athletes to properly assess their abilities, correctly focus on the right processes to reach goals, thrive on stress, and recover quickly from adversity in order to become top performers.

Dr. Llewellyn gives more than 40 speeches each year, working with some of the country`s most prestigious companies and organizations. Whether helping a sales team gain greater focus or a leader learn to thrive on stress, Dr. Llewellyn gives both companies and individuals the mental training tools needed for a winning attitude.

A sports psychology consultant for more than 30 years, Dr. Llewellyn began to receive national recognition when he was credited with turning around Atlanta Braves pitcher John Smoltz`s career in 1991. Smoltz was 2-11 halfway through the season when he began working with Dr. Llewellyn. Thanks to the techniques he learned, Smoltz went 12-2 in the season`s second half and has become one of the premier pitchers in Major League Baseball, winning the Cy Young Award in 1996. Dr. Llewellyn continued to work with the Braves during their record 12 consecutive National League Division titles and 1995 World Series win. He remains under exclusive contract with the Atlanta Braves.

In 2002, he was brought in to work with NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, who was number six in the NASCAR ranking. By the end of the 2002 season, Stewart was number one and had a series-high 15 top-five finishes, culminating in being awarded the Winston Cup Series Championship.

Dr. Llewellyn`s other sport clients have included Paul O`Neill of the New York Yankees, as well as players with the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Montreal Expos and Houston Astros. He also has represented NBA, NFL and NHL players, professional boxers, PGA/LPGA golfers, USTA tennis players, and Olympic athletes. He was appointed to the IOC Polyclinic as an on-call sports psychology consultant for all teams and nationalities at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

Dr. Llewellyn is a frequent news contributor on sports psychology, appearing regularly on CNN and in major newspapers across the country.

His business guidance is equally successful. Using the same techniques applied to some of the world`s finest athletes has helped inspire dramatic new results for executives. His clients cover a broad spectrum of industries and have included Fortune 500 companies (IBM, AT&T, 3M, Hewlett-Packard, Georgia-Pacific, Johnson & Johnson); financial services institutions (Prudential Financial Services, Bank of America, Chase Bank, GE Capital Services, American Express); pharmaceutical companies (Novartis, SmithKline Beecham, Pharmacia); energy companies (Southern Company, Duke Energy); as well as such organizations as the FBI, ATF, Harrah`s Resorts, and many national associations.

He has authored four books: Psychology of Coaching: Theory and Practical Application; Let `Em Play, For Parents and Coaches of Young Athletes; Coming in First; and Winning Sure Beats Losing. Dr. Llewellyn also is an adjunct professor at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, where he teaches in the Michael J. Coles College of Business.

Dr. Llewellyn received his bachelor`s of science degree from Maryville College, his master`s and EDS degrees from Eastern Kentucky University, and his doctorate from Florida State University. He resides in Atlanta and has four children.
