Hank George, FALU, CLU, FLMI, has been actively involved in life and health risk management for thirty years, including 15 years with Northwestern Mutual and 14 years with LabOne Insurance Services Group. From 1977 to 1985, he served as a medical underwriting officer at Northwestern Mutual, conducting underwriting rounds with life and disability underwriters, writing portions of the medical manual (including sole authorship of all cancer underwriting guidelines) and serving as the primary speaker/educator to NM's agents nationwide. From 1987 to April 30, 2002, Hank was Senior Vice President of Lab One Insurance Services Group, providing "value-added" expert services (consultations, underwriting/claims training) for insurers worldwide. Mr. George is the founder and Editor-in-Chief (1984-2003) of On The Risk, the quarterly journal of the Academy of Life Underwriting. He is also the founder and Chair of LOMA's International Underwriting Congress, a biennial gathering of risk managers worldwide Hank serves as author and publisher of Hank's JournalScan, a bimonthly insurance medical newsletter now in its 7th year of publication. Hank also writes a private monthly e-newsletter, known as Hank's HOT NOTES. He is also a columnist/essayist in Broker World magazine and Best's Review, two of the industry's leading publications, and has served in five study groups. Hank is the founder and Chair of The Future Group, a gathering of chief underwriters from the industry's leading life insurers devoted to addressing major contemporary issues challenging life risk management. He has organized over 25 seminars for the Society of Actuaries and is a regular speaker at Society meetings and symposia. He has addressed many major insurance organizations in North America and throughout the world. He has spoken twice on the main platform of the Million Dollar Round Table (1989, 2000) Hank has published over 100 articles and papers on insurance-related subjects and is the co-author (with John Krinik) of Getting It Issued, the only book ever published for agents and brokers about underwriting. Now in its second edition, Getting It Issued has sold over 25,000 copies. Hank also served as president of the Home Office Life Underwriters Association and is an active member of the Association of Home Office Underwriters, the Canadian Institute of Underwriters, the Institute of Caribbean Home Office Underwriters and the American Academy of Insurance Medicine. He is a former member of the Honorary Board of the Vermont Insurnace Association and presently serves as a member of the Advisory Board of GE Long Term Care.
