Our guest speaker today is Catherine Crier. Ms. Crier is a broadcast
journalist, state judge, trial lawyer, professor, and author.
Ms. Crier joined Court TV in November 1999. She is currently the host of Catherine Crier Live, a fast-paced, live daily series that addresses the legal perspective of the days "front-page" story. Ms. Crier, a Texas-bred independent with a spirited passion for justice, debates with her guests the provocative topics that everyone is talking about. She also published her first book, "The Case Against Lawyers" in October 2002, which became a New York Times Bestseller. Ms. Crier previously anchored Crier Today and has hosted Court TVs signature prime time series Crime Stories and Forensic Files as well as numerous other specials such as Safe Passages: Voices From the Middle School and Osama Bin Laden on Trial. Ms. Crier has received the prestigious duPont-Columbia Award, the broadcast journalism equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize for her work on The Systems documentary The Interrogation of Michael Crowe. In 2001 Ms. Crier accepted the Foundation for American Women in Radio and Televisions Gracie Allen award for Grandmothers: Voices from Oklahoma City. This year Ms. Crier will receive the Gracie Allen Award for Individual Achievement by a Program Host, presented by the Foundation of American Women in Radio and Television for her show Catherine Crier Live.
Ms. Crier came to Court TV after three years at the Fox News Channel where she was host of The Crier Report, a nightly, live, one-hour interview program. In addition, she was co-host of the one-hour new magazine program Fox Files and anchor of the The Fox Report, the networks premier evening newscast.
Before making the move to Fox News, Ms. Crier spend over three and a half years at ABC News where she served as a news correspondent for World New Tonight and was a regular substitute for new anchor, Peter Jennings and for Ted Koppel on Nightline. Prior to her assignment with World News Tonight, Ms. Crier was a correspondent on 20/20. Her examination of nursing home abuses throughout the United States in the segment The Predators won a 1996 Emmy for outstanding investigative journalism.
Ms. Crier began her career as a broadcast journalist at CNN. She was co-anchor of both Inside Politics 92 and the evening newscast, The World Today. In addition, she was the host of Crier & Company, a live, half-hour hard new talk show.
Before her dramatic career move in 1989, Ms. Crier was a trial lawyer, then a State District Judge, presiding over the 162nd District Court in Dallas, County, Texas.
